Trevor’s Story

Apex helped Trevor to get his life back on track when he ended up homeless, after becoming unemployed for the first time since leaving school.

Trevor had always been in work and was devastated when he lost his job. Unemployment put a strain on many areas of his life – he couldn’t afford permanent housing and his self-confidence and motivation slumped.

When Trevor came to Apex, he was signposted onto Apex’s Green Light project. His adviser supported him to gain new qualifications in ICT, Maths and Health & Safety, and he received help developing his CV and improving his interview skills. Apex matched Trevor with a suitable work placement in a warehouse where he was able to gain valuable experience to put on his CV. However, Trevor claims his biggest achievement of all was gaining social skills and coming out of his shell.

Our adviser worked with Trevor to complete a speculative application for a warehousing job in Leicester and to Trevor’s delight he was successful in gaining the full time position.

Trevor is now back on his feet and is excited be moving into a new flat, he says; “I am excited and it is a relief, I feel pressure has been lifted off of my shoulders. I’m proud of myself but it’s not all down to me; it was teamwork with me and Lesley, my adviser!”
