Could you be an Apex Inspiring Person?

Apex is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee looking for additional Trustees to support our continued growth and development.

Established in 1982 APEX provides education, training, employment preparation, advice, guidance and support to those excluded from or otherwise disadvantaged in the labour market due to: long term unemployment, basic employability needs, being at risk of offending, or suffering a range of barriers to employment such as ESOL, disability, single parent status, substance misuse problems, health needs, homelessness etc. APEX aims to engage, integrate, enable and encourage all users to progress towards sustainable employment. The charity also works with employers and employer organisations to address prejudice, reduce discrimination and to promote work based experience, training and employment opportunities.

APEX enjoyed exponential growth during the 1990s and early part of the new century culminating, at the beginning of 2005, with the relocation to newly refurbished and refitted premises at its current address in the heart of Leicester City. Three years later the Youth Services were relocated again to a new site enabling expansion and development of services for disengaged young people. Apex currently employs in excess of 70 permanent staff and 20 or so volunteers. Income for the year to March 2009 was in excess of £2m and the charity has reserves of £.75m.

APEX is currently developing its work with offenders in custody and the community and is increasing service provision both geographically throughout the East Midlands and to address the needs of a wider beneficiary community. Pilot work with teenage parents is expanding existing provision for young people and Apex continues to provide pre-employability support for local residents seeking opportunities arising from the Highcross regeneration. Recently, Apex has increased its work with unemployed people to include those newly redundant as a result of the recession and training provision continues to be developed in line with LSC priorities.

There are both threats and opportunities inherent in changing government priorities for the provision of education, training and employability support in the uncertain economic climate. We therefore want to develop and strengthen our board and our strategic alliances whilst exploring new enterprise initiatives to sustain the independence and coherence of Apex moving forward.

Apex is looking for committed and visionary trustees: able to represent the needs of a widening beneficiary group, to capitalise on over 25 years reputation as a provider of services to the unemployed, to promote and develop an innovative community enterprise and to lead the charity into its second quarter century!

Too much of a challenge? If not then we dare you to contact our Chief Executive, Gaynor Quilter, who will inspire you to donate some of your time and talent to Apex!

Please contact Gaynor on L. 261 6501 or at GQuilter@apex-works.co.uk
